The tartan fly plaid is fringed on all sides draped over the left shoulder under the epaulettes on you Highland Prince Charlie or Argyll Jacket and attached by a plaid brooch.
We use 1.5 yards (about 1.4m) to make a plaid and the finished size is about 50 inches square (127cm).
Tartan fly plaid is traditionally worn as a matching accompaniment to the full highland dress.
The fly plaid was introduced by the military at the end of the 18th Century for dress wear when the great kilt was discarded in favour of the little kilt.
